Position Title: Mud Logger / Mudlogging Technician
Location: East Texas & Louisiana
Schedule: Rotational, 12-hour shifts
Employment Type: Full-Time / Project-Based

Position Overview

Stratagraph is seeking experienced Mud Loggers / Mudlogging Technicians for operations across East Texas and Louisiana. Ideal candidates will have 3–5 years of experience working throughout the East Texas Basin and the Haynesville / Bossier play, with a strong understanding of wellsite geology, drilling operations, and real-time data reporting.

This role is responsible for delivering accurate, real-time geological data to client Geologists and Engineers while maintaining high standards of reporting, equipment reliability, and professionalism on location.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform continuous on-site geological monitoring of the wellbore
  • Collect, describe, and analyze drill cuttings for lithology and hydrocarbon indicators
  • Monitor gas, oil shows, and drilling parameters in real time
  • Communicate effectively with client Geologists, Engineers, and Operations teams
  • Provide detailed written and verbal reports multiple times per shift
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot mudlogging equipment daily
  • Identify geological changes and zones of interest throughout the wellbore
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards

Work Environment

  • Field-based work on active drilling locations

Qualifications

Job Requirements

  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts in exposed environments for rotations of up to 3 weeks or longer
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, with an emphasis on Excel
  • Experience using mudlogging software and reporting systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to adapt and perform under pressure during high-activity drilling operations
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, sit, stand, walk, and climb stairs for extended periods
  • Comfortable working in remote, outdoor field environments

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3–5 years of wellsite geology / mudlogging experience
  • Experience in the East Texas Basin and Haynesville / Bossier formations
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Reliable transportation to and from remote work locations
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Pre-employment drug screening

Preferred:

  • B.S. in Geology or related field
  • Additional experience in other U.S. onshore basins
  • Familiarity with high-angle and horizontal Haynesville wells

Expectations

As a Mud Logger with Stratagraph, you will be responsible for on-site geological evaluation of the wellbore while drilling. This includes delivering accurate, timely data to clients, maintaining equipment integrity, and clearly documenting geological changes using rock cuttings, gas, and oil analysis. Attention to detail, reliability, and strong communication are essential for success in this role.
